Kathy Tran Needles Trump for Health Bill in New Mailer, Vows to Expand Medicaid
MAILER released on same day as CBO announces devastating AHCA score
SPRINGFIELD, Va. – On the day the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released its analysis that the U.S. House-passed version of the Affordable Health Care Act (AHCA) would lead to 23 million Americans losing health care coverage, Kathy Tran, Democratic candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates, is calling out Trump for playing games with Virginians' health care, “just to give billionaires a bigger tax cut.”
The mailer leads with an image of the classic game Operation, using a caricature of Donald Trump and the declaration, “Don't let Donald Trump play games with our health care.”
The mailer arrives as Virginia’s Democratic voters, energized by their opposition to Trump and the Republican Congress, eye the upcoming state-level June primaries and November general election as the first big electoral contests of the Trump presidency. Virginia’s 2017 elections also offer voters the chance to hold the Republican-controlled state House of Delegates accountable for blocking Medicaid expansion, as all 100 state house seats will stand for election this year. A recent Quinnipiac poll found Virginians support Medicaid expansion by 2-1.
In the mailer, Tran also makes clear her commitment to stand against Republican attempts to strip health care away for Virginia families while putting forward progressive solutions to expand access. “Democrat Kathy Tran won’t let Trump botch our health care,” the piece’s reverse side begins. Tran vows to use her position in the Virginia House of Delegates to “protect access to affordable, quality health care”; “expand Medicaid”; “defend a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions”; and “increase funding for and access to mental health services.”
Voters in Virginia’s 42nd House District will begin receiving the mailer today and tomorrow.
